I dream of an India governed by noble leaders. I dream of a system where the work of scientists and technologists is focused on specific missions driven by goals relevant to common man.
There
now arises a question that what is the origin of the aforementioned ‘Noble
Leadership’ and how can we bring forth ‘Noble Leaders’?
Undoubtedly,
today’s youth is the everlasting and inexhaustible treasure of the nation and has milestones around their necks. If a just use of this treasure is made, our own population, the greatest Achilles heel will turn into a tower of strength. Completely filled with extreme chaos and discontent, youth seems to be downtrodden by new education policies.
Policies like the Semester System and Credit System at graduation level hamper the overarching and inclusive development of youth and the nation as well. Youth under the ambit of these policies are forced to mug up on the cumbersome syllabus and find no time to deal with the nation, its people, their aura, and even their own selves. If the trend continues we are not poised enough to have ‘noble leaders’ in the future.
After
the promulgation of new educational reforms at matric level by Kapil
Sibal, the whole education system has been kept under the weather. Today, if
a matric student fails in Mathematics, he under the aegis of new
policies are supposed to be awarded ‘Pass Certificate’ by the board
as he has fulfilled the required condition to clear at least five
subjects like arts, music, dance, etc. Now if the said man for whom ‘two
plus two equals five’ becomes a kingpin in administration then we can’t
anticipate anything except subsisting on pie in the sky. Consequently,
Kalam’s dream of noble leaders from science and technology will suffer
beyond the pale.
Furthermore, keeping the necessity of time in mind, we should promote Students’ Unions in our institutions and universities. The legitimacy of the Students’ Union, based on the academic
system of foreign universities, had been valued by our forefathers like
Gandhi, Nehru, and Frontier Gandhi who had been the Lifetime Members of
Students’ Union of Aligarh Muslim University, a premier institution in
India. Veteran personalities like Sir Syed Ahmad Khan discerned the multifarious qualities among the youth and sway the latter to imbue leadership qualities for further consolidation. On the other flank, our
governments & top officials have defunct the Students’ Union in core
institutions of the country like Jawahar Lal Nehru University, Banaras
Hindu University & Aligarh Muslim University.
Student’s Union brings forth talented leaders nevertheless it has been put on freeze.
Arguing devastation in law and order inside universities seems illogical to curb the Students’ Union in universities and students have to suffer administration’s authoritarianism. In fact, there should be esprit de corps among the administration and students. There is a need to run the Student’s Union laissez-faire which will help the nation to grow more profusely. Last but not least, students should comply with the administration and should convey paramount reverence to the same.
